Shawinigan, May 17, 2024 - The Table Action Abus Aînés Mauricie is presenting the 2nd edition of the Mauve Event, on the occasion of the World Day for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, which will take place on Friday, June 7th at Espace Shawinigan, located at 1882 rue Cascade, Shawinigan.
Since 2011, the UN has proclaimed the World Day for the Prevention of Elder Abuse. This day aims to raise awareness, denounce, and intervene to counter this reality. It is also an opportunity to promote respectful treatment and to highlight all the resources available to this clientele.
Under the theme: Pour y voir plus clair, l'Événement mauve (To See More Clearly, the Mauve Event), participants will take part in a series of preventive and informative activities related to abuse and respectful treatment. The event will be held under the honorary presidency of Ms. Louise Lacoursière, a writer from Shawinigan, who has published more than 14 literary works while actively involved since the early 2000s with various organizations.
To conclude, a colorful musical performance will be offered by the group Les Dynamicks.
On-site, several support and prevention resources for seniors will be present to promote their services. Participants will receive free meals and snacks, and will also have the opportunity to participate in a door prize draw. MONTREAL, Feb. 8, 2024 - The Winter Triathlon in support of the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation returns to Montreal's Maisonneuve Park on February 16. Organized by the Cercle de Sainte-Justine, a volunteer committee reporting to the Foundation's Board of Directors, this major sporting event brings the business community together every year to actively support the Sainte-Justine UHC. The goal of this 18th edition is to raise $600,000 for the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation, enabling the hospital's teams to seize current and future development opportunities in pediatric health.

Around a hundred four-person teams will enthusiastically take part in the participative and competitive aspects of this relay race combining skating, cross-country skiing and running. In the months leading up to the winter classic, each team has appealed to the generosity of their friends and family to raise as much money as possible for the children of Sainte-Justine and their families. Over the past 18 years, the Winter Triathlon has raised close to $10 million.
Raphaël's obstacle course: a world first
At the age of 10, Raphaël, the ambassador of this edition of the Winter Triathlon, has already faced countless health challenges and medical interventions, from being force-fed as a baby, to a delicate operation on his cervical vertebrae, to a diagnosis of a bone disease with as yet unknown causes. When he was born, there was no sign of the stormy road ahead. After a battery of tests, doctors discovered that Raphaël suffered from spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia, a genetic disease affecting the growth of the ends of his bones. Despite their best efforts, the experts at Sainte-Justine still haven't been able to pinpoint the precise form the boy suffers from, or the causes of his condition.
But with each new hurdle that stands in his and his family's way, the Sainte-Justine care teams, supported by the generosity of the business community and the general public, are there to give them the courage to keep moving forward. \"I shared Raphaël's X-rays with various bone disease specialists around the world. I also put Raphaël's mutation on a platform used by geneticists around the world to try and find a similar case, and I couldn't find anyone. His case is very unique,\" says Dr. Philippe Campeau, geneticist at CHU Sainte-Justine.
Grateful to the professionals at Sainte-Justine, Raphaël and his family will act as ambassadors for the Winter Triathlon, an event that evokes, in a way, his journey: a challenge of perseverance, versatility, endurance and important teamwork. \"We've benefited from so many services at Sainte-Justine that it's only natural for us to give back,\" adds Raphaël's mother, Laetitia.
Thinking big for the health of future generations
In cases like Raphaël's, where answers are slow in coming, public support is absolutely essential if research is to continue and therapeutic approaches multiply, thanks in particular to the unprecedented possibilities of precision healthcare. In fact, this is one of the main thrusts of the major Voir Grand campaign, which aims to raise $500 million by 2028 to transform the life course of every child with the help of cutting-edge technologies such as genomics. Anxious to support and help seniors improve their quality of life; The Table Action Abus Aînés offers several workshops promoting the learning of tools and personal knowledge to face the challenges of old age.
Take part in our distance learning telegroups : Meetings that take place over the telephone. Group discussion allowing the development of strategies to manage and understand one's difficulties.
Two telegroups offered:
Building your toolbox to manage stress: Mondays at 10:00 a.m. - February 27, March 6 and March 27 then adaptation and the grieving process: Mondays at 10:00 a.m. – April 3 and 17 and May 1 and May 8.
Take part in our talk-workshops for seniors : In partnership with the municipal housing office of Trois-Rivières, these face-to-face discussion workshops deal with the following topics; Cultivate your well-being, balance sheet and life projects, anxiety and stress, grief, nurturing and building relationships. These workshops are followed by a social activity to create links . No obligation to attend all meetings.
Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. - From February 2 to April 6 at the Habitation JP Lavergne community hall, 105, rue Paré, Trois-Rivières (Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector)
Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. - From February 9 to April 13 at the Habitation JA Tessier community hall, 480, rue St-Francois Xavier, Trois-Rivières (Downtown sector)
Legal information sessions: Offered by the Mauricie Community Justice Centre; these information sessions are presented by a notary or a lawyer.
Defend against abuse - Thursday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m. via zoom.
Wills - Thursday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m. via zoom.
There is no age limit to be aware of your rights -Thursday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. via zoom.
