Montreal, April 23, 2020 — In keeping with its core values, Kanuk is proud to leverage its expertise during this time of pandemic in support of Quebec's healthcare system. In response to the critical need for protective equipment in hospitals, the company has rallied its team to manufacture isolation gowns locally for use in various healthcare facilities.
Kanuk was eager to address the critical shortage of medical protective equipment invoked many times at our political leaders' press briefings and was quick to reorganize its production in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Inside the Quebec company’s Rachel Street factory, several artisans are currently hard at work preparing a first batch of gowns for shipment to the Montreal Heart Institute on Friday, April 24. “Given the scale of the crisis, it was only natural that we make every effort to help the tireless front-line medical professionals,” says Richard Laniel, President of Kanuk. The Quebec company will also distribute isolation gowns to several other healthcare facilities across the province in addition to the MHI.
For over 50 years, Kanuk has shown its unflagging commitment to the community, as its local manufacture of clothing also testifies. Recently, the company donated 100 down jackets and 100 down scarves to offer the CHUM’s front-line workers working outdoors a measure of comfort and warmth.
“At Kanuk, we direct our energies to help healthcare workers as well as the community at large. That’s why, throughout the month of May, we’ll be selling handcrafted protective masks for use by our customers on our website. Through this initiative, we hope to contribute to public safety by encouraging people to rally together for the common good and follow the recommendations issued by public authorities,” says Richard Laniel.
