GSK to Acquire 35Pharma to Boost HS235 Pulmonary Hypertension Development

MONTREAL, Feb. 25, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 35Pharma, a Canada-based, private, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specialised in the development of novel protein-based therapeutics today announced it has entered into an agreement with GSK plc (GSK), under which GSK will acquire all of the outstanding equity interests in 35Pharma. The acquisition includes HS235, a potential best-in-class investigational medicine that has completed phase I healthy volunteer clinical trials with studies to start imminently in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and pulmonary hypertension due to heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (PH-HFpEF).

In a significant development within the pharmaceutical industry, 35Pharma has announced an agreement to be acquired by GSK, a global healthcare company. This acquisition is poised to expedite the development of HS235, an investigational medicine aimed at treating pulmonary hypertension (PH). As pulmonary hypertension remains a challenging condition with limited treatment options, the potential of HS235 to be a best-in-class medication could have a profound impact on the lives of patients suffering from this debilitating disease.

The deal is part of GSK's strategy to bolster its pharmaceutical pipeline, particularly in specialized areas of medicine where there is a high unmet need. By acquiring 35Pharma, GSK not only gains access to HS235 but also benefits from the expertise and innovative capabilities of 35Pharma's team. This collaboration could lead to accelerated clinical trials and a faster route to market, ultimately allowing patients to have access to novel treatment options sooner.

HS235 targets pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a severe form of PH characterized by elevated blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. It is known that PAH can lead to serious complications and significantly impact patients' quality of life. With few effective therapies currently available, the development of HS235 as a potential game-changer is welcome news for both healthcare providers and patients alike.

The acquisition is expected to close in the coming months, pending regulatory approvals. Analysts have speculated that this move could strengthen GSK's position in the pulmonary hypertension therapeutic area and improve its overall portfolio. This aligns with GSK's broader commitment to innovation in healthcare and its focus on bringing transformative therapies to market.

In preparation for the integration of 35Pharma and its assets, GSK is likely to conduct a thorough evaluation of the ongoing clinical trials related to HS235. This will enable the company to assess the current data and optimize its development strategy moving forward. Collaboration between the teams from both companies will be crucial to navigate the complexities of clinical trial processes and ensure that HS235 reaches the market successfully.

Moreover, as the acquisition progresses, GSK may also explore additional partnerships or collaborative opportunities that could enhance the development of HS235 and expand its use in treating pulmonary hypertension. Engaging with thought leaders in the field and establishing robust clinical partnerships will be vital to gather insights that can inform the development process and regulatory strategy.

This acquisition reflects a growing trend in the pharmaceutical industry, where larger firms are seeking to acquire smaller biotech companies to access innovative therapies and novel compounds under development. This trend underscores the importance of research and development in driving progress within the healthcare industry and meeting the needs of patients who rely on effective treatments.
