Québec City, September 20, 2019 - On the occasion of the visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Canada, HE Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski, the Minister of International Relations and Francophonie, Nadine Girault, signed an agreement social security guaranteeing Québec and Bulgarian workers and businesses to coordinate the legislation of the two territories with respect to retirement pensions, disability and survivors.
In concrete terms, this agreement will allow employers and workers to continue to contribute to the social security schemes of their home territory without also having to contribute to the regimes applicable in the host territory during temporary assignments. The avoidance of a double contribution will benefit Quebec and Bulgarian companies by promoting their competitiveness. This additional incentive to labor mobility between the two territories will also meet the growth needs of businesses while supporting regional development.
Quote:
"In a context where we want to increase our economic exchanges and diversify our markets, it is appropriate to ensure the good coordination of our legislation with that of our partners. This agreement, which will promote the mobility of Quebec and Bulgarian workers, will encourage the development of our regions and allow the Government of Quebec to meet the need for labor throughout the province. "
Nadine Girault, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie
