Valencia, Spain, December 1, 2024 - Kenyan Sabastian Sawe won the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Marathon with an impressive time of 2:02:05. This performance sets the best global mark of the year, surpassing the one set in Tokyo (2:02:16).
In its 44th edition, which paid tribute to the victims and those affected by the storm on October 29th from the beginning, the sports results confirm the excellence of the event on a global level, although no new record was broken.
The men's race was decided in the final kilometers when Sawe took the lead to win brilliantly. Behind him, Ethiopian Deresa Geleta finished second with a personal record of 2:02:38, followed by Kenyan Daniel Mateiko, who made a strong marathon debut with a time of 2:04:24.
In the women's category, the victory goes to the Ethiopian Megertu Alemu with a time of 2:16:49. She is followed by Stella Chesang, second in 2:18:26, and Tiruye Mesfin, third with 2:18:35.
