Press release: The Quebec Association of People Bereaved by Suicide is filing a claim in the Supreme Court to initiate collective action.
Québec, July 5, 2022 - An authorisation request to initiate collective action is being filed at the Montreal Courthouse Registry this morning by Larochelle Avocats on behalf of the Quebec Association of People Bereaved by Suicide, Marcel Duchesne and Josée Bilodeau, plaintiffs and designated persons.
As beneficiaries and on a personal basis, the plaintiffs want to take a legal action for « all the parents and heirs of people who have died from suicide since January 1st 2019. »
The Quebec Association of People Bereaved by Suicide consists of bereaved people from all Quebec regions who denounce the poor quality of the health care and social services provided to people who have mental health issues as well as suicidal thoughts.
Ninety percent (90%) of people who die by suicide suffer from a mental health problem. Over the last four decades, death by suicide has become a serious public health problem and a societal issue in the province of Quebec.
