Paris, France - 30/09/2019 - As part of its Fonds Cathédrale de Paris, the Notre Dame Foundation raised between April 17th and September 30th € 36m in donations to 46,600 individuals, 168 companies and 29 French public authorities. foreigners, of all sizes.
The total donations already received and the pledges that will be made are of the order of € 380 million - including € 100 million from François and François-Henri François Pinault and € 200 million from Mr. Bernard Arnault and his family and the LVMH group.
The convention that defines the framework for collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Notre Dame Foundation was adopted on July 29th, allowing the formalization of the commitment between the major sponsors and the Foundation.
- Initially planned this Monday, September 30, but postponed considering the funeral of Mr. Jacques Chirac, MM. François and François-Henri Pinault will confirm their commitment to contribute € 100 million on Tuesday October 1st with the President of the Foundation, Mgr Michel Aupetit.
- Remember that Mr. Bernard Arnault formalized his commitment and that of the LVMH group on September 24th.
The payments of the major patrons will extend over several years, throughout the restoration project, as and when calls for funds that will send them the Foundation Notre Dame. They will also participate in the Restoration Monitoring Committee, as provided for in the framework agreement established with the Ministère.
- It should also be remembered that the Ile de France Region will also be signing a convention by the end of October, the Regional Council having voted a € 10m support for the June supplementary budget
- A new initiative also reinforces the patronage pool around the Notre Dame Foundation. Indeed, on the proposal of Mr. Denis Duverne, Chairman of AXA's Board of Directors, a contribution of € 5 million announced at the Group's General Meeting in June will be made. This endowment allows the creation of a foundation under the auspices of the Notre Dame Foundation.
Its purpose is to support both the restoration of the cathedral as an edifice but also its influence during the construction period. Needs are also numerous (tourist reception facilities, restoration of objects damaged by fire, ...). The AXA Foundation will decide on a first support by the end of this year.
- Two other foundations will be announced later this fall.
Already 31 M € are donated by mid-October to the Ministry of Culture by the Notre Dame Foundation, to participate in the essential work of securing the building site and consolidation of the cathedral. The updated budget for this phase up to June 2020 is € 85 million.
But the total amount needed for the restoration of the cathedral remains unknown since it is at the end of the year 2020 that the final diagnosis can be established. This is why the Notre Dame Foundation is pursuing the collection with determination because each euro counts to ensure support and funding over time, until the end of the project.
