Successful start for Raphael Lessard turns into a frustrating finish in Richmond - NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS)
Richmond (Virginie, États-Unis), le 17 avril 2021 / PPN Source- Raphaël Lessard est confortable sur les pistes ovales relativement courtes comme le circuit du Richmond Raceway. Cinquième sur la grille de départ, tout était en place pour un résultat à l’avant du peloton, au volant du Silverado #24 Canac préparé par GMS Racing.
Raphaël Lessard s’est battu avec succès dans le top-5 les 50 premiers tours de la course et dans le top-10 au cours des 180 premiers tours en accumulant de précieux points aux deux premiers segments (7e). Suite à la neutralisation du 187e tour, les événements se sont enchaînés : une erreur dans les puits a relayé Raphaël Lessard en milieu de peloton et alors qu’il tentait de dépasser, un compétiteur provoque un incident qui l’oblige à entrer aux puits afin de redresser les ailes du côté gauche. Raphaël Lessard croise ainsi le fil d’arrivée en 23e place.

« J’étais confiant avec ma camionnette Canac au début de la course. Nous croyions à un top-5 ou mieux encore, surtout avec les excellents réglages que l’équipe améliorait lors des arrêts. La camionnette fonctionnait de mieux en mieux dans les plus longs segments.
Nous sommes arrêtés tard dans la course pour monter des pneus neufs en anticipant les dépassements des adversaires qui avaient arrêtés plus tôt. Tout allait bien jusqu’à ce qu’une erreur de l’équipe dans les puits me coûte des positions. Nous sommes repartis de la 21e position et c’est alors qu’un compétiteur a détruit ma camionnette du côté gauche. Ce fut une fin de course frustrante, » explique le pilote du Chevrolet Silverado #24 Canac nettement frustré.

Richmond (Virginia, United States) – April 17, 2021 / PPN Source - Raphael Lessard is comfortable on relatively short oval tracks like Richmond Raceway. From fifth on the grid, everything was in place for a result at the front of the field, driving the #24 Canac Silverado prepared by GMS Racing.
Raphael Lessard fought successfully in the top-5 over the first 50 laps of the race and in the top-10 during the first 180 laps, collecting precious bonus points in the first two segments by finishing both of them in 7th place. Following the caution period on lap 187, several incidents occurred: an error in the pits dropped Raphael Lessard to the middle of the field, and a driver he was trying to pass caused an incident that forced him to enter the pits in order to straighten the left side fenders. In the end, Raphael Lessard crossed the finish line in 23rd place.

"I was confident in my Canac truck at the start of the race. We believed that a top-5 or better finish was well within reach, especially with the great set-up the team was improving on during the stops. The truck was even running better and better in the longer segments.
We stopped late in the race to fit new tires in anticipation of overtaking rivals who had stopped early. Everything was going well until a team mistake in the pits cost me positions. We started from 21st position and then a competitor damaged the left side of my truck. It was a frustrating end to the race," said the unhappy driver of the #24 Canac Silverado.
