Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, le 16 mars 2021 - Raphaël Lessard et son Silverado #24 Quincaillerie Richelieu seront en piste pour leur seconde course de la saison sur un tracé de 1,5 mille, l’ovale hyper rapide du Atlanta Motor Speedway, ce samedi le 20 mars. Quincaillerie Richelieu ajoute à son support pour Raphaël Lessard en agissant comme partenaire principal pour cette course.

« Quincaillerie Richelieu est heureux de solidifier concrètement son appui envers Raphaël et son équipe pour la saison 2021. Cet engagement soutenu lui permettra de piloter une camionnette exclusivement aux couleurs de RICHELIEU lors de la course d’Atlanta le 20 mars prochain. Nous lui souhaitons tous la meilleure des chances dans l’atteinte d’un podium bien mérité, » mentionne Richard Lord, Président et chef de la direction de Quincaillerie Richelieu Ltée.

Pour Raphaël Lessard, c’est une opportunité complémentaire de développer une relation gagnant-gagnant. « Il me fait grand plaisir de voir Quincaillerie Richelieu nous faire confiance et revenir pour une deuxième année consécutive afin de nous aider pour cette course. Il est toujours important de s’associer avec des leaders dans leur industrie, comme Quincaillerie Richelieu, et je suis persuadé que ce partenariat aidera les deux parties à atteindre leurs objectifs en affaires comme sportifs. »

Le pilote de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce est à sa seconde visite sur ce circuit. En 2020, Raphaël Lessard roulait dans le top-5 à deux tours de la fin lorsqu’une crevaison le renvoie à la 18e place au final. La visite a toutefois été fertile en nouvelles connaissances pour le jeune pilote.

« La surface de la piste use les pneus très rapidement. Il faut profiter des premiers tours sur du neuf pour gagner des positions, mais sans jamais oublier de se garder une réserve pour la fin des segments et surtout la fin de la course. Nous roulons à quelque 300 km/h sur les droits avec très peu d’appui, ce qui réduit l’adhérence partout, un effet que l’on sent beaucoup en freinage de haute vitesse comme en voulant rentrer aux puits. Il faut donc faire bien attention de ne pas dépasser cette limite, ce que NASCAR surveille de très près. Dans l’ensemble, mon équipe et moi avons bien travaillé à Las Vegas et nous avons vraiment amélioré la camionnette pour le dernier segment, ce qui promet pour cette course et pour le reste de la saison. Nous sommes prêts à gagner, » selon Raphaël Lessard.

Saint Joseph de Beauce (Quebec, Canada) – March 16, 2021. Raphael Lessard and his #24 Richelieu Silverado will be on track this Saturday, March 20th, for the second race of the season on a typical NASCAR track, the high speed 1.5-mile banked oval of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Raphael Lessard will run under the colours of Richelieu Hardware, a partner in 2020, who are returning by this year as principal partner for this event.

This is the second time the Saint Joseph de Beauce driver has visited the Atlanta oval. In 2020, Raphael Lessard was running in the top-5 group with two laps to go when a flat tire set him back to 18th place at the finish. On the plus side, that race was a great learning experience for the young driver as he prepares for this coming event. 

“The track surface at Atlanta is extremely hard on tires. You have to take advantage of the first few laps on new tires to gain positions, but always think about saving something for the end of a stage and especially the end of the race. We are driving at around 186 mph on the straights with very little downforce, which reduces grip everywhere. You can really feel it when braking at high speed on entering pit lane. You also have to be very careful not to go over the speed limit in the pits, something NASCAR is quick to penalise. Overall, my team and I did a good job in Las Vegas and really improved the truck for the last segment, which is promising for this race and the rest of the season. We are ready to win,” added to Raphael Lessard.
